Upstairs Renovation

Vector Space Upstairs Renovation Campaign #helpusup

CAMPAIGN UPDATE (11/27/2017): After a campaign hiatus while we finalized the second floor exit plan, we are back in action! We need just $3,000 more to fully fund our upstairs renovation. We have been busy extending our lease, agreeing to renovation terms with our landlord, and submitting our building permit to the city. In the meantime, we also spent a week this fall sanding the floors upstairs. We are adding a finish to the floors now, and ceiling insulation is being installed this week. We aim to complete renovations in early 2018. Donate now to bring these plans to life!

After a year of operation on Fifth Street, we've outgrown our space. Fortunately, there's room right above us, perfect for what we need. It just needs a little love before we can move in.

Grand Opening 2016

Why Give?

Our membership and educational programs are growing and thriving. In order to offer the best learning environment for everyone, we need more space! Specifically, the newly renovated space will include:

  • Classroom
A designated classroom space will allow for clean, quiet instruction between students and peers.
  • Computer Lab
This Fall we're building 10 new computers, and they deserve a quiet, dust-free home.
  • FabLab
The fabrication laboratory will include 3D printers, laser cutters, vinyl cutter, and more.
  • Electronics & Textiles Room
A space for electronics, screen printing, sewing, leather and fabric storage, and work tables.

How will my donations be used?

Before we can use the upstairs, it needs to be renovated and safely brought up to code. Your donations will go directly to the build and installation of the following.

  • Second stairwell
  • Second exit
  • HVAC
  • Electrical Updates
  • Bathroom
  • Refinishing original wood flooring
  • Painting walls
  • Ceiling insulation

While ceiling insulation might not sound glamorous, the future of Space balloons, Nitro RC cars, Maker Faires, Combat Robots, Hackaday contests, Rockets, Giant flip books, internships, workshops, and everything else you know and love depends on these renovations.

Here's how we plan to layout the upstairs, with the primary goal to put all clean and quiet activity upstairs, giving more room for loud, messy making downstairs.
